Clue 5

1. Theme of "About Effie" was even though person seem live without problems or internal conflicts, there is something that is hidden.

1. Effie is waiting for a man. He is mysterious and seems very dangerous. Effie know that the guy will come when there is lightening. This is quite similar to this verse

"35"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. "

Effie is doing same thing. Waiting for him to come. This guy is master who will come to Effie. He is master of Effie and Effie is living for him.

2. "Why, if I went to Timbuctoo he'd just as soon find me there. Or in Madagascar even. I don't have to wait around in any old Toronto"
This is what Effie said. it is part of Christ imagery. He is creature of this world, so he knows whatever going on. it means God can find us even though we are hiding. And I think Timothy findley put this into story because he tried to describe God as a him whom Effie waiting for.

3. I think it is possible that non-christian authors reveal truth about God's world. I think like that because utopia in people's mind usually reflect God's world which is perfect world. Even though they are non-christian author, there utopia or thoughts usually based on utopia of God. thoughts from today is based on those thoughts from bible.

Clue 4

1. I admire my father because he is one who i know best. He works for other people's life. he is doctor, and that is why i admire him. He save other and live proud life. He support me and my sister, and buy me somthing i want. He has ability to support us, and live life taht he chosed. He's job make other happy, sometimes worthy. Also, he never lies to other. He is very honest and his job make him not to lie because it is related to other person's life. I love my father and admire him most

1. I think clues such as time place, characters, characteristics are setting reveals theme of a short story. They reveal about the theme because they give idea of what was going on that time. character's basic settings are really important because it is directly connected to character's reaction and its mental status. Also, Characteristic help reader to understand character more and make sense some weird action.

2. Character's reaction is lead the story. Author give character characteristic to make story and that means character has its color which will make a picture name theme. For example, Author give character really bad characteristic, and character is also passimistic. That might cause moody or sad story. But if i give that character goodoptimistic characteristic then my story will be bright. Then theme will be change.

3. one of the place where i am very impressed is studio when i record movie OST. Ther was huge machine that control sounds and there was force that say, "This place is full of expensive things." I couldn't touch a thing in there. Also, when I sing, it had enough room to be confidnece. Another thing is it has only one chair in about half of the classroom size room. it was kind of scary. There was magic mirror. You can see me from one side but other side is mirror. it was so cool.

Readers response: two kinds

This girls mother is giving hope to girl just like my mother do. I and this girl also believe that.
However, because i in the text book didn't do what mothers want to do, and mothers are disappointed. just like I in the textbook, I do whatever I want that cause conflicts. She and I care about our own sake first rather than their expectation. WE both give up what i can't do ,and do what i can do my best. Mother know that children can't do it but they force children. I and I in texbook folloew what she want us to do even though we are not interested in. playing is always starting of conflict, and that cause resistance.

Clue 3

1.literary theme is theme in the book or poem. For example, in the story of " the utterly perfect murder" Book talk about revenge. it is lesson for people. like this literary theme is theme that is located in the story. Usually, literary theme is talking about lesson from experience that author learned before. As he/she write story or poem, he/she put their thought and that is theme of the book. his idea and what he wants to talk about is theme.

2. Theme of my life is enjoying life. I'm young and feeling that i can feel right now, won't be exist forever. Well if i go to heaven and live forever, it might be a bit different. However, i think theme of my life is enjoy my life and ready for harder life. If we don't enjoy our life, it will be very difficult to live through my life.

3.I think theme of God's plan for this world is bring people to his world. he made us and happy about that. so Jesus came to earth and washed our sin. at the end of this world, he will bring us to heaven where we can live forever. He cares us, he like us and that is why God forgive us. He loved us so he sacrificed his son to forgive our sin. Who on earth would sacrifice their son to save other? that is how different he is from human. He want us to come to his world.

1. We can figure out the theme in a short story by read progresses of story. Steps of figuring out theme is very simple. Watch background of the story, characteristic of character, and situation carefully, then we are halfly ready to know what the theme is. When the story ends, think about factors that changed character. compare with other object and think about similar happening happened past. Then we might get idea what he wants to talk about. Theme can be very hard, because they are not

2. Theme of The utterly perfect murder was very simple. I think its theme was revenge is worthless to do, and it is vain thing to do. Just like Doug, many people want to revenge. However, after they finish it, it make people to lose their hope. they lose goal after that just like Doug. At the end Doug thought it felt joy; however, that might be painful laugh made because he lost his goal.

3. Moral of story is different from theme. Theme is something that author want to say directly. it can be their thought, their life, etc. on the other hand, moral of story talk about what are the bad things about character. moral of story is almost lecture, and that is different between moral and theme. Also, moral is problem in the story. Moral is conflicts of character. it is situation in the story. Moral is what character experience and learn. (still has author's idea)

4. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

this talk about God's grace. this say that God gave all the thing that he has to save us. He even sent his only son, Jesus to save us. God tries so hard to give eternal life. theme of this passage is how big God's grace is, and remind us what to do for him. it say, he won't frustrate us. Also, he will give us eternal life when we believe in him

CLUE#6

Define a metaphor and a simile

Metaphor and simile is way of figurative language which compare one object to other which has same characteristic. However, Metaphor don't use word like nor as, simile use those. Both of them use characteristic of another example .

1. why do authors use figurative language?
Authors use figurative language in their writing, because figurative language to describe better. Quality of writing depends on reader's imagination. to help reader's imagination, writer should describe and compare which people can easily imagine. comparing with an object which has same characteristic and easy to imagine make writter to write more realistic.
2. list 3 metaphors that you think are really beautiful or interesting.
When hundreds of Cherry blossom fall because of wind, it looks a heaven on earth.
bullet is lightening fast.
Earth's picture from space is utopia inthe space
3. Find a metaphor for Jesus in the bible and list the bible verse.
But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." (matthew 26:63 NIV)
4. What doest this metaphor reveal about God's world and your understanding.
God sacrificed his only son to save us and Jesus himself was God. Living God was Jesus, and he killed himself to save us. People was finding Messiah and he wasn't messiah, but God himself try to save us not by Messiah, but as a God. High priest knew that prophecy will fulfilled

Clue 1

1. What is beauty?
Beauty is standard that people made to admire one's greatness in appearance or mind.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. In my own words pelase summarize what reader response analysis is and what steps are involved.

Reader reponse analysis is a process that reader actually connects with the book and have better understanding. There are steps for this reader response anlysis, and it is making connction with the author or character. So by fining relating facts with you and author or character, you can understand situation better, and read with enjoyment. and later, you read again and see how the story feel differences between last time and now. For example, there is passage in the book of Genesis. "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."(genesis 1:31) This passage can be explained in many ways. Maybe some would say, he liked what he has made, or some would say God liked the world.
2. How can reader response open our eyes to more truth as we read?

Reader's response open our eyes, because sometimes you can find contradictions in the passage. For example, you know the feeling that character feels, and he reacted in different way you can see what is wrong or right with this guy. For example, "The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish—vanish like smoke."( Psalm 37:20) This passage is about beauty of earth which don't exist forever like God. Many would say same thing as the book said because beauty don't exist forever. But some people who know there is beauty that exist forever in God won't say same thing as other do.

3.why is it important for you to interact/ connect with literature?

Making connction is very important because small elements in the story actually reflects what author think while he write the story. thinking about thoughts of author will give better understanding.Connection with literature is important because you can see how they get over the situation that he get in. they might get over situation in different or same way.

4. Reflect on a book or story you have read recently and what new truth about the world you learned from that narrative.

Book that I recently read was " The Crucible" it is about a beautful women who admitted her adulteration. I could see a woman who face the problem and a man who hide the problem that he has. Two different person made two different way of treating one situation. One chose hard way and one chose easy way. this is example of people who choose the way that people choose to do. And it also show the end of person who chose easier way. I learned what happens when you avoide the situation in mental way. in the book that guy lived with guilt, and that actually killed him.

Clue 2

1.

2.Why do stories need to be structured? What does reveal about our need, as humans, to construct understanding.

Stories need to be structured because structure is ideal state of writing. Story has topic which is very strong. and it should be organized so people can understand and get topic clearly, and fast. Not only that but also this tells us that human need to be very organized to understand other. Even in the short story, people need to be organized to explain thoughts.

3. After you looked at the plot graph and structure of "Marigolds", what new things did you see in the story that you didn't see before?

I looked structure of Marigold, and found that it has full structure in story. even though it is short story, it has all the elements as a story. story flows very well. Plot graph told me small differences divied story into few parts, and that is different from 300page story.

4. What is the theme of Marigolds and how does the structure of the story make that theme evident?

Theme of Mariglod was regret, and memory. Main character remember what she had done to Ms. Lottie. Structure usually help to understand the theme. For example, in marigold, writer regret so much. i can find that in expository and resolution part. Other part between two is reason why she regret. Just like that structure help people to understand better.

Clue 2

The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.
6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.[b]
10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent,[c] nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " 16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only,[e][f]who is at the Father's side, has made him known. (John 1:1-18)

John wrote this and said word became flesh. Word of God was what how he existed in our life, but Jesus who came to earth with human's body came to earth. That's why he said it said word became flesh. this explane that he will come in glory. And he came to this land to prepare for God to come our world. (revelation)

This is expository part of Jesus christ's life, because it is prophecy which explains Jesus life. Also it is start of the book of John.
